Logistics is one of the least sexy words in the dictionary. It sounds complex and heavy; often times too much to really even care about. And that’s true. It’s an ugly sounding word, that just so happens to influence the way the world operates.
Without logistics, ailing people in remote areas of our world would find it nearly impossible to receive the medication(s) necessary to save their lives. A first generation college student wouldn’t get the care package prepared by her family before midterms. An up-and-coming fashion designer wouldn’t get his fabric in time to showcase his ideas to the influencers in his industry. Without proper logistics, there would be a lot more disappointments in the world.
Many describe logistics as moving something from point A to point B. Which, quite frankly, doesn’t say much. Expanding on that definition, let’s say its this intense cocktail of communication, collaboration and good judgment. It’s understanding the rules and regulations of the items/materials someone is shipping both domestically and internationally. It’s understanding that the vaccine administered to prevent a disease must be kept at a specific temperature in order to be effective. It’s understanding the guidelines of the TSA, FDA, CBP and EPA (that’s a lot of abbreviations!). It’s being aware that Pope Francis is visiting NYC during the same time as the United Nations General Assembly so you KNOW traffic is going to be crazy. It’s about awareness, preparation, and action.
Logistics isn’t a sexy sounding word, but it sure can produce some sexy results (when done properly). Still confused about logistics? Get trained by the best in the business.
